Manipulations and Mobilisations

What
We Offer

Manipulation is a type of manual therapy technique that involves applying a high-velocity, low-amplitude thrust to a joint in order to improve its range of motion and reduce pain. While spinal manipulation is perhaps the most well-known type of manipulation, it can also be used on peripheral joints such as the shoulder, knee, or ankle.

Mobilisations are passive joint movements with the goal of improving joint mobility and function. Mobilisations can be used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions, including joint stiffness, muscle spasms, and pain.

Mobilisations can be classified into two categories: oscillatory and sustained. Oscillatory mobilisations involve rhythmic and repetitive movements of a joint, while sustained mobilisations involve a static hold of a joint at the end of its range of motion. The practitioner may use different techniques and pressures, depending on the patient’s condition and tolerance.

Mobilisations are often used in conjunction with other forms of physical therapy, such as exercise and massage.

Our Manipulations & Mobilisations Sessions

Manipulations are typically part of a larger treatment plan that includes other manual therapy techniques, exercises, and patient education. They are generally safe and effective for many people, but may not be appropriate for everyone, particularly those with certain medical conditions or a history of spinal or joint surgery. You will be assessed prior to the treatment whether you are suitable for this particular treatment.

Your
Specialist

Our therapists have experience in both mobilisations and manipulations. They will assess the need for this treatment and talk through the process before they ‘do it’.
